Site of the old mine shaft on Nakanoshima Island, Nagasaki, Japan - HD stock video

Site of the old mine shaft on Nakanoshima Island where coal was once mined. Nakanoshima is an islet about 700 m north-northeast of Hashima Island. Coal mining commenced here in 1879, but was abandoned nine years later because of the large amounts of spring water appearing in the shafts, which interfered with the extraction of coal. It became uninhabited following the closure of the mine on nearby Hashima. Little remains there apart from battered stairs and piles of bricks.
