The Umayyad Mosque also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus, located in the old city of Damascus, the capital of Syria, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world. This footage was shot in 1998 more than a decade before the start of the Syrian civil war. Abu Muhammad al-Jawlani who led the Syrian rebel offensive into Damascus held his first public appearance in this very mosque.
