Australia tries reviving economy after second coronavirus lockdown
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - NOVEMBER 17: Australian local authorities are trying to improve their city environments with new decorations after the second COVID-19 lockdown in the country.
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the local authorities in Melbourne and Sydney, where the novel coronavirus pandemic caused the highest number of casualties and cases, started to re-decorate the cities' centers with trees and flowers.
In Australia, which successfully survived the second wave of the virus pandemic, the Victoria state government and the New South Wales state government are trying to save the economies of the biggest cities of the country.
While the state governments announced the new economic packages, the municipalities of the cities are redecorating the streets and buildings with flowers and trees to increase the attraction of the city centers.
Sally Capp, Mayor of Melbourne, said he aims to make every part of the city a center of attraction before Christmas.
Meanwhile, Dominic Perrottet, Treasurer of New South Wales, said the state government will distribute $100-checks to all grown-ups living in the state as part of the efforts to improve the economy.
The checks, which will consist of four pieces of 25 dollars each, will be used in sectors most affected by the pandemic, such as restaurants, night clubs, and cinemas.
The coronavirus has caused 907 deaths in Australia and while 819 of them were in Victoria, which had become the center of the outbreak, 53 others were in New South Wales.(Footage by Recep Sakar/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
