Aleijadinho - stock photo
The 12 prophets of the sanctuary Bom Jesus de Matosinhos were carved between 1794 and 1804 by Antônio Francisco Lisboa (Aleijadinho), one of the mairoes exponents of Rococo and Baroque art in Brazil.
In spite of its historical importance, today the sculptures are in a state of deterioration, caused by both the wear of time and by vandalism.
nowadays when observing the works of art it is possible to notice broken limbs, eruption caused by wear, presences of fungi and solidified bird mouths, drawings and writings made by some visitors in the structures and their networks.
