NIGERIA-CULTURE-SPORT-DAMBE
A young Dambe boxers face is covered in sand after a match at the Dambe Warriors Tournament on March 2, 2018.
Dambe, a brutal style of fighting where one wrapped fist is a designated spear and the other a shield, is traditionally practised by Hausas in Nigeria's north, but on this night the fight was in the southern city of Lagos. The attempt to introduce Dambe to the megacity's elite was notable less for the fighting than as a showcase of Nigeria's complexity. / AFP PHOTO / Stefan HEUNIS (Photo credit should read STEFAN HEUNIS/AFP via Getty Images)
