One Year After Hosting Olympic Games, Rio Left With Unfulfilled Legacy

Nearly one year after Rio hosted the first Olympic games in South America, many of the costly venue sites are now shuttered or underused amidst a deep economic crisis in the city. Some Olympic legacy plans, including ridding Rio's bay of pollution and modernizing favelas, have failed to materialize. Critics believe the money spent on the games would have been better used developing infrastructure and other necessities. The one-year anniversary of the games is August 5.
