Milkman Delivering Milk to a House
(Original Caption) Were it not for our far selling ancestors who came to America in the early days of colonization, America might not be consuming its thirty million bottles of milk per day, in fact, it might not even have the cows from whence comes the milk. The early colonists conformed to the rule that all ships sailing to the New World must carry one cow for every five colonists aboard. Thus the Old World families of Jersey, Guernsey, and Holstein settled in America, moving westward as the colonists did. Descendants of these early herds are producing 118 billion pounds of milk per annum, despite labor shortages. Photo shows: In the early morning hours, the milkman, his old horse cart replaced by a streamlined truck, makes his rounds to the homes of sleeping Americans.
