Trying for a semi-innocent look. "Cosplay" or costume play...
TOKYO, JAPAN - 2006/07/17: Trying for a semi-innocent look. "Cosplay" or costume play is a recent phenomenon in Japan. It is said that it began with the popularity of Japanese animation or 'manga' culture, and the thrill of dressing up as characters in cartoons or animation. One of the most common dress up characters is as a "French maid"; though it is not of cartoon/anime origin, French maids are a favorite fantasy of Japanese men. These days, costume play girls are much more imaginative and create their own costumes and fantasies. They can be seen every Sunday in Harajuku, Tokyo's fashion district..
