Oregon Boundary Settlement
This treaty established the 49th parallel as the boundary between United States and British territory in Oregon. The treaty also guaranteed free navigation of the Columbia River and the Juan de Fuca Strait. It is signed by Secretary James Buchanan and Richard Pakenham, British minister to the United States.
