PANAMA-CANAL-LOCKS

The last gate of the Pacific Locks is being installed as part of the Panama Canal expansion, as the media is offered a tour, in Cocoli, near Panama City, on April 28, 2015. The canal's system of locks is undergoing an extensive upgrade to allow the waterway to accomodate ships carrying up to 14,000 containers of freight -- triple the current size. The expanded Panama Canal is expected to finally be up and running in April 2016, after months of delays and cost overruns, an official overseeing the project told AFP last month.
