PERU-SCIENCE-PALEONTOLOGY-PERUCETUS COLOSSUS
The fossilized remains of the Perucetus colossus, a primitive cetacean belonging to the Basilosauridae family that lived 39 million years ago during the medium Miocene era, are exhibited at the Natural History Museum of Lima on August 4, 2023. Unearthed in the Ica desert, the Perucetus colossus is believed to have been 20 meters long and weighed 199 tons, which makes it the heaviest animal that has lived on earth in the history of the planet.
