She was the first woman to hold the presidency of Chile. During her term in office, she has carried out educational and tax reforms, as well as the creation of the National Institute of Human Rights and the establishment of the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality. The Summer Courses of the Complutense University are, since 1988, an international reference for academics and the general public as a forum for intellectual exchange.
