The jury convicted Pankey of false reporting to authorities but could not reach a decision on the other charges against him which included first-degree murder after deliberation, felony murder and second degree kidnapping. Pankey, 70, is accused of kidnapping and killing 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews in 1984. The murder charges come almost four decades after the girl disappeared from her Greeley home and was never seen alive again.
