Soliers guard a variety of weapons, drugs, mobile phones and other objects confiscated from inmates -- including members of the Mara 18 (M-18) and Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gangs -- at the Tamara National Penitentiary, Francisco Morazan, 20 km north of Tegucigalpa on August 21, 2013. The Honduran Army and National Police are carrying out a joint plan on a large scale to disarm inmates from the Mara Salvatrucha and the so-called Paisas, who are entrenched since August 3 after a battle --involving AK-47 assault rifles and at least three grenades-- that left three members of the Mara-18 (M-18) gang killed and six other inmates wounded.
