Saudi Shiite Muslims flagellate themselv...
Qatif, SAUDI ARABIA: Saudi Shiite Muslims flagellate themselves during a ceremony to mark Ashura in Qatif, in Saudi Arabia's oil-rich Eastern Province, 30 January 2007. Shiite Muslims are a minority in the predominantly Sunni desert kingdom. Ashura falls on the 10th day of the Muslim month of Muharrem and is the culmination of Shiite mourning for their imam's gruesome death. A grandson of the Prophet Mohammed, tradition holds that Hussein was decapitated and his body mutilated by Yazid's armies. AFP PHOTO/STR (Photo credit should read STR/AFP via Getty Images)
