Protesters Decry Belarus Official Election Result
BERLIN, GERMANY - AUGUST 15: Protestors attend a demonstration against the results of Belarus' presidential election the previous weekend, in which President Alexander Lukashenko, the only ruler the country has had, claimed victory and another term in his 26-year rule of the country, on August 15, 2020 in Berlin, Germany. Preliminary results gave Lukashenko 80% of the vote, which opposition candidates allege is a rigged count. The main opposition to Lukashenko, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, has fled to Lithuania, and the European Union has condemned both the election outcome as well as the government's violence against protesters participating in the demonstrations against Lukashenko's victory that followed.
