THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS - 2022/10/08: A protester holds a portrait of a 17-year-old Nika Shakarami during the demonstration on the Malieveld, The Hague. Hundreds of Iranians and their supporters gathered in The Hague, in support of Iranians protesting on the streets of Iran. Security forces in Iran cracked down on protesters after the arrest and sudden deaths of 22-year-old Mahsa Amin and 17-year-old Nika Shakarami; arrested while attending a protest demo, for Mahsa Amin. Amin, was arrested by morality police for the improper wearing of her hijab -headscarf. She later died in police custody. Police claimed that she suffered a cardiac arrest while being questioned; her injures indicated otherwise. Human rights groups in Iran say at least 150 protesters have been killed. The morality police are part of the national police force and established in 2005 to uphold the Islamic moral code on dress.
