(Original Caption) New York: A machine that, in effect, cashes checks around the clock will be put in use on an experimental basis at the headquarters of first national city bank Tuesday. The bank said it could revolutionize banking services. The bank calls it "The Cash Station" because it pays out cash without the intervention of a teller. The depositor inserts a special card in a slot in the machine and at the same time keys in a confidential identification number. The machine dispenses a fixed amount of cash and records the transaction, retaining the card which is returned to the depositor with his monthly statement. Charles F. Hayward, a citibank vice-president, said the machine, made by a British firm, Chubb & Sons, is virtually temperproof. It is already being used successfully in England.
