FEB 25 1980 Kennedy Senior Wins Bridge-Building Contest Lauri McLaughlin, 17, a senior at John F. Kennedy High School, won the 13th annual Bridge Building Contest during the weekend at the Denver Federal Center. The contest is sponsored by the Water and Power Resources Service and the Professional Engineers of Colorado. She was one of 1 24 students from 47 Colorado high schools who designed and built 1 2- inch bridges of balsa wood and model ***** glue. Her design weighed only 20.2 grams ***** 706 pounds of pressure, 15,884 times its ***** Miss McLaughlin, daughter of engineer Ronald C. ***** was the first young woman to win the annual contest and her final score, 15.884.6, was the highest ever recorded, officials of the contest announced.
