JetBlue employees investigate the engine of a JetBlue A320 airliner that struck birds on takeoff Tuesday from Long Beach Airport and returned to the airfield because of concern about damage to an engine Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006. Flight 244 from Long Beach to Oakland landed without incident, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor. The pilot reported hearing a loud sound when the aircraft took off about 11 a.m. and the pilot made the decision to return, said airport spokeswoman Sharon DiggsJackson.
