Antietam battlefield

In September of 1862, Confederate troops commanded by Robert Lee invaded the north, setting the stage for the bloodiest single day of the Civil War just outside of the town of Sharpsburg, Maryland. Named after a local creek that Union troops had to cross, the Antietam battlefield is now a National Park visited by tourists, historians, and Civil War re-enactors.
