Henry at Waterford', 1864. The Norman invasion of Ireland took place in stages during the late 12th century. This military intervention had the backing of King Henry II of England, (1133-1189) and was authorized by Pope Adrian IV. Henry II, (5 March 1133 - 6 July 1189) landed at Waterford in 1171.
