Belfast High Court Reaches Judgment In Legal Challenge To Troubles Act
BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND - FEBRUARY 28: Grainne Teggart, Amnesty International UK’s Deputy Director for Northern Ireland (4th L), Martina Dillon (5th L) whose husband, Seamus, was shot and killed outside the Glengannon Hotel in Dungannon on 27 December 1997. The circumstances of the killing suggest the role of collusion with Troubles victims and their relatives at a press conference following the court ruling outside the High Court on February 28, 2024 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In December 2023, Ireland initiated an inter-state case against the UK's Troubles legacy act for providing immunity for crimes committed during the 30-year conflict. Victims, including Martina Dillon, John McEvoy, and Lynda McManus, have challenged the Act's compliance with human rights, addressing concerns about denied inquests, inadequate investigations, and the prohibition of civil claims.
