CODEX MEXICANUS DE DRESDE
Fascimile of the codex Mexicanus of Dresden. The destruction caused by the Conquest, then by the struggle of the evangelists against paganism led to the disappearance of many indigenous mansucripts, or codices. They were traditionally drawn up on beaten bark or painted on cervidae skin covered in lime. Some codices were brought to Europe. Others found later were saved and sheltered in libraries. After many adventures. (Photo by Jean-Pierre COURAU/Gamma-Rapho via Getty Images)
