UNITED STATES - SEPTEMBER 04: Engraving made in 1847 by Robert Hinshelwood after Captain Seth Eastman, US Army, showing a 19th century version of English navigator Henry Hudson (d 1611) meeting Native Americans. Hudson�s crew mutinied and he was set adrift in an open boat and never seen again. Hudson Bay, the Hudson River and the Hudson Straits are named after him. The population of the Americas was drastically reduced after the arrival of the Europeans due to war, disease, forced removal and relocation, and the destruction of traditional ways of life.
