Detail of timber framing on the exterior of the 17th century gatehouse of Stokesay Castle, Shropshire, c2000s(?). Stokesay Castle is the finest and best-preserved 13th century fortified manor house in England. It was fortified by Lawrence de Ludlow, a wool merchant, who died in 1294.
