DURRES, ALBANIA - MARCH: A boy grazes his goats during the passage of the Operation Albania - "Pellicano" convoy near bunkers (by 1983, approximately 173.371 concrete bunkers were scattered across the Albania) on March, 1992 in Durres, Albania. The economic and social problems in the Balkan State determined an exodus that in 1991 could enlarge: along with the 30.000 refugees in Italy there were others ready to raise anchor. The Italian Government decided to offer the first humanitarian supports to Albania in order to discourage the immigration and repatriate the refugees that reached illegally the Italian coasts. The mission aimed to provide the emergency helps from the Italian harbours of Durazzo and Valona to the Albanian storehouses, but also to ensure the health assistance and the distribution of medicines to the Albanian population.
