Australian Sikh Association Provides Support And Services To Community During COVID-19 Lockdown In Sydney
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - AUGUST 19: Assistant chef Gurjee Singh prepares chapati to be packed into meal kits for those in need at the Gurdwara Sahib Glenwood Sikh Temple on August 19, 2021 in Sydney, Australia. The Australian Sikh Association (ASA) serves Sydney's Gurdwara Sahib Glenwood - the largest Sikh congregation in Australia. The Gurdwara Sahib at Glenwood is the hub of religious and community activities all year round with members of the Sikh community visiting the Gurdwara Sahib to pray, meditate and listen to the teachings and hymns from Guru Granth Sahib. During Sydney's COVID-19 lockdown, the ASA has started a daily tiffin service, distributing cooked takeaway food at the main gate providing around 500 meals per day to people in need. For those community members who can't come to temple, ASA volunteers are delivering food, medicines and other supplies to people affected by lockdown restrictions. The Australian Sikh Association has also been active in the community encouraging people to get vaccinated for COVID-19, hosting a vaccination pop up clinic at the Gurdwara Sahib in Glenwood.
