Mass Grave of Spanish Killed in Civil War Unearthed

MARCHENA, SPAIN - SEPTEMBER 19: Antonia Parra Villalba, age 72, poses for a portrait on September 19, 2008 in Marchena, Spain. The father of Antonia, Antonio Parra Ortega, was detained on August 29, 1936 at the age of 34 and was executed on september 4, 1936. Antonia never knew her father as her mother, Francisca Villalba Morales, was seven months pregnant of her when Antonio was killed. Investigators probing into the repression by Spain's former dictator General Francisco Franco will hand over a list this week to Judge Baltasar Garzon containing 130,000 names of people killed and buried in mass graves during the Spanish civil war from 1936-39 and the subsequent Franco dictatorship. Garzon has begun looking for information on Franco's victims in preparation for a possible court case. It is the first time that crimes committed during Spain's civil war are investigated by a major Spanish court but doubts remain, as many of the crimes committed are covered by a 1977 amnesty law, how far Garzon can carry the investigation. Groups representing the victims are thrilled, but not everyone is happy about agitating Spain's fascist past. (Photo by Samuel Aranda/Getty Images)
