New Mexico Scenics
SANTA FE, NM - AUGUST 3, 2013: An Apache Mountain Spirit Dancer from the White Mountain Reservation in Arizona departs after performing at a Gan ceremony near Santa Fe, New Mexico. Often called Crown Dancers by non-Apaches, the Native-American dancers are called upon to evoke blessings at sacred Apache Gan ceremonies. The traditional dancers, with their upper torsos painted with symbolic designs and faces covered with cloth masks, each carry a wand and wear enormous, painted headpiecesd called 'horns' which recall the Mountain Spirits of Apache culture.
