Historical view of the Wengernalp, Switzerland, wood engraving, published 1876 - stock illustration
Historical view of the Wengernalp - an alp at 1874 m above Wengen in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. On the left is the Hôtel de la Jungfrau, which was built in 1841 and reopened after a fire in 1865. The picture also does not yet show the Wengernalp Railway, which only opened in 1893. In the background, the Eiger (3967 m above sea level) on the left and the Mönch (4110 m above sea level) on the right. Wood engraving based on a drawing by Edward Theodore Compton (English painter, 1849 - 1921), published in 1876.
