Tra Vinh is also the homeland of immense sedge fields. The traditional Tra Vinh sedge mat village is renowned throughout the country.There are three harvests each year, but the one in March lunar month (or April) is the main one. The average profit for each pole of fresh sedge is about 3 million VND and 10 million VND for dried and chopped sedges. Local people here live on these sedge fields.When harvesting, they divide sedges into short and long sedges. Sometimes they chop and dry them to get more profits. Then, sedges are dyed, dried and transported to the mat-weaving workshop. Each day, they can make 4 hand-made mats and 10 machine-made mats.
