Babe Ruth in Baseball Uniform
(Original Caption) A nineteen year old husky from Baltimore reported to the Boston Red Sox near the end of 1914 baseball season for pitching duty. His long hitting marked him more than did his pitching and he was moved to the outfield now ready to begin his 21st year in the big Leagues. At forty years of age can we look back on this greatest national pastime. This may be his last active season as a player, but he unquestionably will always be closely identified with baseball, a sport he loved as a boy and still loves today. His all time record of 611 runs is likely to stand for years to come. No one has yet equaled his mark of 60 home runs in a single season. Look closely at this picture of the young Babe Ruth at the start of his big League career, was he dreaming of the glories to be his?
