Born on February 21, 1937, King Harald V of Norway was the first Norwegian-born monarch to inherit the Norwegian throne in over 600 years, reigning from 1991 until his death on August 28, 2026. He represented Norway in sailing at three Olympic Games and, in 1968, married Sonja Haraldsen, breaking with royal convention by marrying a non-royal.
