Five teenagers from from Battlefield High School have been killed during car accidents in a year.

HAYMARKET, VA, JUNE 27, 2011. Yolanda Meffert kisses the cross placed at the site where her son Derek Meffert, a student of Battlefield HS, died last year in August during a car accident. "Derek was a wonderful son," says Ms. Meffert who moved to Haymarket with her family from California 3 yeas ago. "I come and visit him here at this place where he died twice every day to talk to him," says the well-known opera singer. Five teenagers from from Battlefield High School in Haymarket, VA, have been killed during car accidents in a year. Derek was 15 when he died on Logmill Road in a car crash that also killed the driver Stephen T. Dixon, 18, who had just graduated from Battlefield HS. Not far from where Derek and Stephen were, on the same road, two teenage girls were killed in a car accident. Savanna Kidane Mouratidis, 15, of Haymarket, was so severely injured during the accident that she died at the hospital two days later after the accident two months ago in April. Kendra Kaeleen Tucker, 15, of Gainesville was pronounced dead at the scene of that accident. According to police, alcohol and speeding caused both accidents.
