Benidorm Nightlife Remains Dormant After Spain's Coronavirus Shutdown

BENIDORM, SPAIN - MAY 11: The Cafe Benidorm nightclub remains closed at El Rincon de Loix nightlife area on May 11, 2020 in Benidorm, Spain. Pubs, Sport Bars and Nightclubs located at El Rincon de Loix area, known as ‘Zona Guiri’ or ‘Zona Inglesa’ have remained closed since March 13 when Spain’s government declared the state of alarm. The ‘Zona Guiri’ is one of the Spain's areas with more bars per inhabitant. The Spanish resort, a top destination for British holiday makers has moved to phase one which allowed bars to open up again with just 50% of space in the terrace allowed. Despite these new easing measures many owners of pubs and sport bars will remain closed due to the lack of tourists. The Spanish Government has announced that everyone coming into Spain will be subjected to quarantine measures for 14 days without deadline during the state of alarm. Some parts of Spain have entered the so-called "Phase One" transition from the coronavirus lockdown, allowing many shops to reopen as well as restaurants who serve customers outdoors. Locations that were harder hit by coronavirus (Covid-19), such as Madrid and Barcelona, remain in a stricter "Phase 0" quarantine. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images)
