Frankfurt: Nationwide Protests Against AfD Continue Following Revelation Of Meeting With Neo-Nazis

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, GERMANY - JANUARY 20: People gather to protest against the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party on January 20, 2024 in Frankfurt, Germany. According to the organizers, up to 50.000 people took part in the demonstration on Roemerberg, Paulsplatz and the Zeil shopping street. Protests against the AfD and for defending democracy have been taking place across Germany over the past week following the recent revelation that high-ranking AfD members met with far-right extremists at a villa in Potsdam last November. According to the investigative media group Correctiv, whose members filmed and recorded portions of the gathering, politicians from the AfD, including AfD Bundestag parliamentarian Gerrit Huy as well as Roland Hartwig, a now former advisor to AfD co-leader Alice Weidel, and the German Christian Democrats (CDU)-linked Werteunion met with far-right extremists, including Austrian far-right activist Martin Sellner, and supporters of far-right causes, including Hans-Christian Limmer, founder of the Backwerk nationwide bakery chain. Participants at the meeting reportedly discussed how to possibly introduce legislative measures to enable the mass expulsion of immigrants from Germany, as well as German citizens with immigrant roots and German citizens who have helped refugees.
