French actor and film director Jacques Tati rides
SAINT-GERMAIN-EN-LAYE, FRANCE: French actor and film director Jacques Tati rides the 1960s a Solex, a motorized bicycle, with his son Pierre near his house in Saint-Germain-en-Laye near Paris. Jacques Tatischeff (1908-1982) was one of the great icons of French cinema, a Gallic equivalent of Chaplin or Keaton, whose works as director, writer, and actor are regarded fondly by audiences as well as harder-to-please critics. Like a true film maker, Tati essentially made only one kind of film, in his case, the physical comedy. The main protagonist of all his movies is also his screen alter ego, the ubiquitous Monsieur Hulot. AFP PHOTO INTERCONTINENTALE (Photo credit should read AFP/AFP via Getty Images)
