Royal Elephant
British Marine William Paton (1839 - 1871) travels to England with an elephant presented to Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, during a tour of Asia, 1871. The elephant was then transported from Plymouth to London by train, and Paton was killed when the creature crushed him accidentally during the journey. After a brief stay at Sandringham, the elephant was presented to Dublin Zoo. (Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
