Brazil Initiates Program To Eradicate Malnutrition

Less than five percent of Acaua residents have running water or even toilets in their homes. Less than 20 percent have electricity. Acaua's population has one of the lowest incomes in Brazil, with approximately 87 percent of its residents living on less than U.S. 55 dollars a month. As a result of these conditions, Acaua was chosen by Brazil's government, along with three other comunities in the state of Piaul, to serve as an experiment for the implementation of a program known as "Zero Hunger," which is designed to, through a series of intiatives, eradicate malnutrition from Brazil.
