The World Unfiltered—Covering History as it Unfolded

Getty Images' photojournalists stood at the frontlines of every major world event capturing moments of crisis, resistance, and renewal. Their work chronicled politics, social movements and natural disasters, documenting not just the facts, but the human stories that shaped a world in transition—from a youth‑led government overthrow in Nepal to the Los Angeles wildfires, the undaunted humanitarian efforts in conflict zones to the global turmoil surrounding immigration.

“I woke up to a low, ominous howl of the infamous Santa Ana winds around 3:00 AM on January 7th and never imagined I’d be covering two devastating fires burning simultaneously in Los Angeles. Even now, the scale of the loss is difficult to comprehend and remains utterly heartbreaking. I returned to the burn zones scores of times, yet no single photograph has been able to fully articulate the immensity of the destruction.”

The camp, like so many other Damascus neighborhoods, was bombarded by government forces and almost totally depopulated during the civil war. Following the overthrow of Syrian leader Bashar al‑Assad by opposition groups in a quick offensive on December 8, the country is looking to gain economic momentum after years of global sanctions on the Assad‑led government. Arab and Western countries have been reopening diplomatic relations with Syria's new de facto authorities, headed by the Islamist former insurgent group Hayat Tahrir al‑Sham, or HTS.

“When the first group of migrants emerged from the dunes, it quickly became quite chaotic, with people shouting and crying. It was dangerous for everyone, migrants and police officers alike. You can imagine what would happen if an officer were to slip and end up underwater, with the weight of his shield or someone on top of him. I hope my pictures humanized the people on both sides of this contentious issue.”
