Reimagining the Future of AI

TABLE OF CONTENTS

In this series, CGI artist Jens Balle (J Studios) explores ways to reimagine how AI blends with our daily lives. Moving beyond traditional depictions of technology, he uses fresh color palettes, surreal textures, and playful elements to create bold conceptual imagery. His work invites viewers to reflect on how AI can shape our routines, relationships, and environments, while sparking curiosity about its evolving role in our future.

Artificial intelligence is seemingly everywhere, woven into our daily routines, workplaces, and creative tools, and yet it remains largely invisible, dark and almost ominous. Getty Images' VisualGPS research reveals that less than 2% of popular visuals represent AI, and of those depictions 70% represent the concept of futurism with darker hues of blues and black. Optimism, on the other hand, with hues of purples, pinks, oranges, and yellows, make up less than 5% of AI visuals. And more than half of non‑people AI visuals are abstract points of light and lines meant to represent data and information flows instead of making sense of the exciting, specific ways AI is utilized today.

By using digital design to visualize the unseen, Jens transforms complex, intangible ideas into accessible and emotionally resonant visuals. His work breaks away from the cold; metallic aesthetic often associated with technology. Instead, he uses vibrant hues and organic, dreamlike shapes to suggest that AI doesn’t have to feel distant or sterile; it can also feel creative and alive. This approach taps into a broader visual trend of humanizing technology. By blending familiar, playful imagery with digital surrealism, Jens’ work evokes curiosity instead of fear, and optimism instead of uncertainty.

As AI becomes embedded into our everyday lives, the visuals that represent it must evolve beyond clichés like generic robots and circuit boards. This shift opens the door to more imaginative and emotionally intelligent storytelling, where color, form, and space serve as metaphors for how technology interacts with humanity. Jens’s work encourages us to imagine how AI might change our world, and how we see and feel about it.
