Subhanullah Mosque damaged as Indian airstrikes hit Pakistan's Bahawalpur
BAHAWALPUR, PAKISTAN - MAY 7: Subhanullah Mosque was damaged after Indian airstrikes struck Bahawalpur, Pakistan, on Wednesday, May 7, in one of the most intense escalations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in recent years.
Pakistan’s military confirmed that at least 31 people were killed after India launched missile strikes into its territory and due to cross-border firing along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between the two countries.
Giving a breakdown on civilian casualties from the midnight strikes, Pakistan military spokesman Lt Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told a news conference in the garrison city of Rawalpindi that 13 people were killed in Ahmedpur East, Bahawalpur district of the southern Punjab province when India targeted the Subhanullah Mosque.
The number of injured, meanwhile, rose from 46 to 57, military spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told an evening news conference.
India announced “Operation Sindoor” late Tuesday night, saying it struck “terrorist infrastructure” at nine locations in Pakistan.
