General Douglas MacArthur arrives in New York City in 1951

On tarmac at Idlewild Airport (later named John F Kennedy International Airport), reporter puts microphone in front of Jean, Arthur, and Gen. Douglas MacArthur standing with Mayor Vincent Impellitteri and wife Elizabeth ("Betty"); he introduces Mayor who steps up to microphone as General turns to shake hands in crowd behind him, Mayor gives welcoming speech and shakes hands with General, reporter steps in and announces General MacArthur as Grover Whalen, chief of protocol, steps in front to move Elizabeth from Mayor's side to stand with Jean MacArthur as Douglas begins speech, Mayor interrupts him to get reporter to silence crowd with "We have a job. Will you kindly observe a little protocol?", he raises microphone again and SOT MacArthur speaks: "I cannot tell you how heartwarming is this splendid welcome.
