Florida Sets New Records For Tourism In 2013

According to reports released by Florida's tourism marketing agency, more tourists visited Florida during the past spring and early summer than ever before during the same three-month stretch. A record 23.4 million visitors came to the state during the second quarter, a year-over-year increase of 2.6 percent. Between April and June, 19.7 million domestic travelers visited the state, a 1.6 percent increase from 2012. The number of overseas visitors jumped 9.3 percent to 2.7 million, and travel by Canadians increased 4.9 percent, with about a million tourists. Visit Florida, the state's official tourism marketing corporation, said the first half of 2013 was ?the largest six-month period in the history of Florida?s tourism industry.? The number of visitors hit about 49.6 million, a 4.2 percent increase over the first half of last year. From January to May, visitor spending reached $33.2 million, 5.5 percent more than the same period in 2012.
