Gaucho is a denomination given to people (men and women) linked to livestock activities in regions of occurrence of "neutral" fields, the biome called pampa, which occurs in southern South America, in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and southern Brazil. The peculiar characteristics of their pastoral way of life would have had a culture of their own, derived from the amalgam of Iberian and indigenous culture, adapted to the work performed in estates called estancias. It is thus known in Brazil, while in Spanish-speaking countries such as Argentina and Uruguay it is called gaucho (tonic accent in "a", different from Portuguese, whose tonic accent is in "u"). The term is also commonly used as a Gentile to name those born in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. It also serves to name the folkloric type and set of traditions codified and disseminated by a cultural movement grouped in associations, created for this purpose and known the Centro de Tradições Gaúchas or CTG.
