South Sulawesi - stock photo
South Sulawesi is a province in the southern peninsula of Sulawesi island, Indonesia. South Sulawesi is the most populous province on the island of Sulawesi. There are three main ethnic groups, Buginese, Makassarese and Torajan. The coastal plain is a rice-bowl and exports rice throughout Indonesia and neighboring countries. Shrimp farming and growing of seaweed occurs along coastline areas. Whilst flying from Kendari and descending into Makassar one can see the block pattern of rice paddies and shrimp ponds and small to large villages dotted throughout the coastal landscape.
