Built on the hill sides of Rio de Janeiro the shanty town of Rocinha also called "favela da Rocinha" is considered the largest in South America. Illegal constructions on city land has been expanding to the very top of the hills. Recently legalized this town located near the district of São Conrado in Rio de Janeiro is the home of poor segment of the local society. Violence is high due the war between drug cartels and dealers living on premises. Nevertheless tours are organized for foreign tourists to visit this colorful place.
