This dilapidated windmill farm is located on the South Point Access Road, off Highway 11. The road takes the visitor to the windswept South Point, the most southerly tip of the Big Island of Hawaii.The Kamaoa Wind Farm had 37 turbines with tipical 7.5MW total peak output. The turbines were shut down on 15th August, 2006. A new wind farm was constructed only 1.5 miles from this site with 14 turbines and a maximum of 20.5 MW total peak output (approximately 6 to 7% of the islands energy usage).
