Hiking Along the Salt Creek Boardwalk

Most of Death Valley is an arid desert, devoid of water. Salt Creek at more than 200 feet below sea level is an exception to the rule. The creek originates from brackish springs and marshes more than a mile from the Salt Creek Trail. As it flows downstream the creek becomes increasingly salty due to evaporation. Eventually the stream meanders onto the salt flats of Cottonball Basin where it soaks into the ground or evaporates. This young man is walking along the boardwalk of the Salt Creek Trail.
